Cystic Mystic

Cystic Mystic is more of a challenge for the rhythm section than the pan and marimba players, however there is a hemiola in the A section that the whole group must execute. It starts with a traditional Afro-Cuban 6/8 feel on the drum set and moves to a half time groove for the B section and solo section. There is a counter melody for the 2nd half of the B section for the bass player. This piece is great for adding Latin percussionists and includes a suggested conga pattern.
 
Difficulty: Medium (great for college combos, or can be expanded to accommodate larger percussion ensembles)
Instrumentation – Double Tenors or 2nd’s, marimba 1, marimba 2 (4 mallets), bass, drum set
